The ‘Walking Alone’ Napkin

Just added this and thought you guys might enjoy it. The napkin and zine were donated to the site by Todd. The time period matches up, so do you think the incident is the inspiration for Walking Alone?

Oh wow that is so cool! I would say like maybe the whole song isnt about it but he took inspiration from it. Can i post this on r/greenday or are you going to do it yourself?

Saw that ages, or something about, so if nothing else it seems to be an enduring story. Could possibly be true, at least he apologised.

No, you can do it if you want.

Yeah and like I said on the page, the comic incident is likely overdramatized to be a more entertaining read. Either way, it was almost 30 years ago and he was still young and coming to grips with being famous at the time.

I have no doubt this is true. Listen to songs like Bab’s Uvula Who. He has a hell of a temper when he’s anxious or drunk. Nobody’s perfect but at least he owns it and apologizes after.

Considering Billie is known to be inspired by stuff like this, such as the poem that inspired She and the letter that inspired Reject, I dont doubt its true

Oh, I fully believe this. Billie’s temper and drunk antics are pretty well known, but it’s good he apologized and owned up to his behavior, especially calling her a bitch. It takes a big person to admit they’re wrong. Given how young he was and how much he seemed to be struggling with fame at the time, I hope she was able to forgive him, but definitely no judgement if she didn’t. Bartenders get the short end of the stick quite a bit.

I do wonder if it inspired Walking Alone. I’ve seen this said about that song:

But since there’s no actual source for the interview (?), who knows whether it’s even real or not.

I could see it being both still, like part of that song seems to be a reference to I walk alone while the other parts seem to reference a regrettable mistake. I bet even when writing in character he still draws from his own personal experiences.
