What do you guys think the worst Green Day song is? I know we’re all probably gonna answer something like “Oh, I think [song] is their worst but I still love it!” but there’s at least one or two songs that we each don’t listen to.
For me, it’s Strangeland and Best Thing in Town. Those two songs are just terrible. I still listen to em from time to time but I’m never gonna say “Man I really wanna listen to Strangeland”. It’s not even about the production quality, the song itself is just bad.
When you have a band going for 30 years you’ll have some misses. Idk if theres really a worst song because they are all weak for one reason or another but heres what I picked.
Fire Ready Aim - Lyrics make no sense and yeah this is one of the few obvious examples of Green Day being sellouts. Very commercial and definitely for the NHL
Troublemaker: Not a fan of Billie’s vocals and probably one of the weakest instrumentals in the Trilogy
Drama Queen - I just cant stand this song xD
Nightlife - Low hanging fruit I know but amazing instrumentals were ruined by a bad voice changer and the use of rap. Its a damn shame
Controversial pick: See the Light - Ok so Im a big 21st Century Breakdown fan but oh my god I cant stand this song especially with it being the closing song on an amazing album. It probably ruins around 70 seconds too long and man these lyrics are just weak
As for your choices while I dont hate them Strangeland and Best Thing In Town are pretty weak songs especially when songs like 2000 Light Years Away, Who Wrote Holden Caulfield, One of My Lies, etc are on this album. The actual aound of them does scream “we were running out of budget for the album and just recorded this on cheap equipment”
Okay I think I have a new answer— Here Comes The Shock is so bad that every one of us erased it from our memories
Oh, and agree about See The Light. It’s a mediocre song and American Eulogy would have been a better ending sonically (similar to Forever Now as a potentially better ender) but I get that he wanted to end the album on a more positive note.
Overall, DUI. For studio album tracks in the WB era, Christian’s Inferno. There are a number of songs from 39/Smooth that are only okay, but have been played live later that I then love.
I mean, technically those last 4 songs are from an EP that they recorded before Kerplunk! The album ends with Words I Might Have Ate which is a great closer imo. The last four are technically bonus tracks so I don’t consider them apart of it haha. I do love My Generation and Sweet Children is a decent song.
See The Light definitely is a hot take but I can see your POV!
