Which instrument is your favorite in terms of Green Day? Personally, I find it such a hard question, thinking about whether the more upfront guitar riffs, the groovy basslines, or the pounding drum beats are the best part about a song.

Or perhaps it isn’t even one of the three! Could it be the harmonica, saxophone, harp, the new accordion, or even Mike’s baseball bat?
As a guitar player I long for the days of Mike Dirnt’s 90s basslines. Ever since American Idiot theyve gotten pretty simplified and arent as noticeable in the tracks. I think Dirnt’s bass is like Travis Barker’s drumming on Blink-182 albums
Yeah, I remember green day being one of the first bands I heard where the basslines really stood out. Even now hearing songs like 2000LYA I’m struck by how well mike balances between meshing with the rest of the band and just going apeshit with those riffs (I think all three of them are really good with maintaining that balance tbh). Who knows, maybe we’ll see a return to that in the new album
When the drums kick in on Basket Case I go insane. Yeah I love that distorted guitar sound that is so Green Day but I can listen to Tre’s drumming all day long. He’s incredible to watch live, especially in the 90’s shows
As a bass player myself, Mike’s basslines are what inspires me, that one day I’ll be a great bass player. And I do agree with everyone who said that the basslines stick out.
Man, I hate having to choose, because all three are so integral to Green Day’s sound, but I think I’ll have to go with bass. (I’m so sorry, Tre!!!) That bass is what would make you know almost immediately you’re hearing a Green Day song.
