This made my day lol. Isn’t this from the same interview where Billie makes fun of Chad Kroeger?
Yep, it’s a pretty wild interview
haha, i love this video so much!
I grew up watching MuchMusic, seeing this again makes me sad there’s nothing like it or mtv around anymore. I first saw Green Day on Much and hated them because I thought they were trying too hard to be cool by acting like they didn’t want to be interviewed. It was only after Much played the When I Come Around video 10 billion times that I finally broke down and bought the Dookie cassette which I became obsessed with and here we are now. That wouldn’t happen today because you’re on your own to discover new music and the skip button is right at your fingertips but I miss the old days. /end old person rant
I have the Dookie cassette, its such a good album to have on a lost media format. Ive seen a lot of interviews with Billie Joe saying he doesnt like cameras and interviews. Interesting to hear how you got into the band though!
There’s something to be said for repetition and things like MTV/MM and radio where you heard what they wanted you to hear. I know the lyrics to hundreds of songs from the 70’s/80’s . OTOH, I do have a long list of songs from growing up that I can’t stand though simply because they were played to death by DJs. It’s a crazy business deciding what reaches your ears. Yeah we more freedom to decide now but also do we give songs enough of a chance to sink in?
Exactly, I am happy with the freedom to decide but the consequence of that is that so much just gets lost in the shuffle. I’m not saying I want to revert back to the old days, I just wish that there were shows on YouTube or whatever that interviewed artists, had special in-studio concerts for fans and had video countdowns and whatnot. But I guess if there were a market for it, someone would be doing it.
I know exactly what you mean. I’m not sure what it is, but I’ve been especially wistful for MTV/Much Music lately. It was such a huge part of my life, and it’s wild to think it doesn’t exist in the same capacity anymore. The other day I even searched to see if very old episodes of TRL and shows like that are online in their entirety somewhere. I’m glad I’ve always been such a media hoarder, because even if they aren’t online, I have boxes of old VHS tapes full of just hours and hours of MTV.
I miss TRL but even if it did exist now it wouldn’t have people on I care about. We can be sad about these things not existing anymore but we are probably all rock fans and that’s not popular anymore so we probably wouldn’t watch it now even if it was on still
I actually listen to quite a bit of pop (assuming indie pop like Sky Ferreira, Charli xcx and Carly Rae Jepsen count), so I might be interested in it still lol. But probably not, because I’ve definitely aged out of the core demographic. The show would be aimed at people a decade or two younger than me, that’s for sure.
So even though it’s surely not profitable in any way whatsoever, I wish there was a dedicated channel to just 90s MTV. I say that as someone who doesn’t have a cable package, though.
Ok fine, ya got me, I’m just an aging xennial struggling with her loss of youth! Nothing short of a time machine would satisfy me.
