so i’ve never been to a green day concert… or any concert for that matter… i wanna go to one SO bad tho.
this might make me jealous, but can y’all give some of your greatest highlights from a green day concert?

Innings fest 2019
I was sitting there for at least 5-6 hours. Met a guy from Costa Rica who I still talked to till this day. We were on Mike’s side and let me say this. If you cant get center stage or a cat walk side stand by Mike. He interacts with fans inbetween songs, often waving, bowing, making a face, or just smiling at us. Also he gives security his picks to hand out to us. If you are in the pit for awhile (usually at a festival) you’ll make a lot of friends even if you never seen them again. Always save the spot of someone who leaves the pit especially if they are getting water or using the bathroom at a festival and if they offer you water ALWAYS TAKE IT.
As for Green Day themselves their showmanship is amazing and they never have a bad show. Only complaint I have is the damn setlist.
I lived about a 7 hours drive from Toronto growing up so it wasn’t until 1998 that I finally was able to travel there for a concert. So I went to Edgefest 98 for my first GD show, Foo Fighters were also playing but they were mostly just known as “that dude from Nirvana’s band” then. After obsessing over GD for the previous four years, I was awestruck at seeing them come out in person, seeing Blue and them breaking into Nice Guys Finish Last to kick the show off. I still remember to this day Billie’s little stage banter he did during Hitchin A Ride:
I’m running for mayor of Toronto
All drugs will be legalized
Teenage sex will be rampant throughout the city
And there’ll be a free 6 pack of beer in your fridge every goddamn morning
(kicks back in with the guitar riff)
For the first four shows I went to I had been given backstage passes from the band but I was too shy to go back and meet them at the time. Finally, at Warped Tour, I got up the nerve to go talk to Billie and just nervously went up to him while he was sitting in a big circle of other bands and telling a story …which I interrupted to ask for the autograph and never told him who I was. He signed my shirt upside down. Then they played a small promo show in Toronto for Warning and destroyed the stage and when I tried to go back and meet them the venue said we weren’t allowed after what the band had done, just my luck lol
Never had a bad experience at a Green Day show though, they’ve all been fun even if they are a bit repetitive in their show antics nowadays. Hope you get to see them soon!
that sounds awesome! thanks for the tips. what’s wrong with their set list, is it because it’s the same songs every time?
Yeah unfortunately its been about the same since the American Idiot era but it was at its worse during Hella Mega and the 2022 tour dates. Hopefully they mix it up soon though!
That is awesome lol
My first GD concert was on 21st cb Era and let me tell you something: there would never be shows like those ones they played in that era. So energetics, so powerful performances, 3 hours per show, awesome setlists… I think it was the best era of Green Day with no doubt. I know this is not about just GD shows but I wanted to bring up one of the best and happiest moments of my life.
For real man, back when they would play 4-5 different deep cuts every show
I’m in the same boat as you. Never been to a concert, much less a GD one, would love to go except the setlist. Maybeeee hoping to be lucky enough to score on a private show for a better setlist
I love concerts and hope you all get to some soon. They can be a great experience even if you aren’t mad about the band on arrival, you may be really impressed (or otherwise) by a band.
I first saw GD in 2009 so 21CBD and was completely blown away by their performance, they sound so good live, have great stage presence, are such fun and it’s what really made me crazy for them, I was a more casual fan beforehand, I have now seen them four times and they are always fantastic. I understand the complaints about the set list but I have also been at gigs where the band has started to play deep cuts and half and the show has never recovered. The whole atmosphere just disappeared. Billie has slowed up a little, naturally but I guarantee you will enjoy seeing them, they are truly excellent live.
Totally agree with @HCATZ123 re being at Mike’s side, really looks at the crowd and makes eye contact, it’s thrilling.
Me either. I’m going to hope they have a show down In columbus this year though.
They never play songs like 80 or android live these days
man that sounds awesome! told you these stories would make me jealous haha. but that’s so cool you got to meet billie!
that’s so cool, i love that era too! wish i coulda gone then
i hope you get to go soon!!
yeah, watching videos of older concerts compared to them now i have noticed a difference in billie, but i don’t mind, i think it’d still be fun too they’re stage presence seems so surreal, i can’t imagine it in person
i hope you get the opportunity soon!
I started seeing them live on the RevRad tour but damn to hear some of these stories I wish I had a time machine
Now a Time Machine would be something wouldn’t it. Wonder how much of our time we’d spend going back to old shows!?
I can only imagine how shows were back when only 39/smooth and Kerplunk were out. I’d love to be at one of those
The only time I’ve ever seen them was back on the AI tour in 2004. It was an awesome show but definitely one of the longest I’d seen, so I was wiped by the end of it and thoroughly impressed with their stamina lol. I’d also somehow managed to get myself right up front and center before they went on which was awesome. A friend of mine was actually the one called up on stage to play and keep the guitar!
I never saw them after that because, honestly, their music didn’t resonate with me quite as much post Warning/some of AI (though, some albums have grown on me over time). I almost saw them at the Pop Disaster Tour in 2002 but went to Warped Tour instead like a dummy. I’d like to see them now, though, and I’d especially like it if I got to see them in a smaller venue like they did at the Metro. That’s my dream Green Day gig. Fingers crossed!
