Oh Yeah!

Blink returned to the stage today with front man Tom Delonge. This is also the first performance since Mark Hoppus battled cancer.

Many are dubbing this the best live performance ever by Blink-182 and are giving high hopes for the US tour and new album

How are you guys feeling about Blink being back? Are you looking foward to what the band has next?

Is this their best live performance? No. I think they sounded great in 1999. I do think that this is the best they’ve sounded since their Untitled record though.

I’m excited to hear their new album, this is a step in the right direction after NINE.

I’m going to get roasted here but if that was their best live performance they have a very low bar lol. I watched it and well Mark and Travis sounded good, Tom continues to be a terrible live singer and the weird punk rock voice he sings with on Blink sounds so bad to me, like he’s bored singing the versus. The one song they sounded really tight on was Edging. Watching them there gives me even more respect for what Green Day does.

Maybe not best, but it was a work of art. So good to see them together again!

To be fair to Blink they are a true 3 piece band and honestly thats just how Tom sings, its the same with Angels and Airways. Its not bad, I think its just a matter of taste.

Green Day has an additional 3 members on stage which of course leads to better performances by Billie because he has to do less work were as Tom (and previously Matt) has to do more. Not a diss to Green Day at all, in fact I would love to see Blink take on anothe guitarist, but I dont think its fair to compare their live performances because of that

I agree and disgaree at the same time with how they sounded in 1999 xD

There are so aspects that were better then like vocls, but things like timing and overall sound were much better tonight. I think the main tour will be a true comparison though once summer kicks off

I love Blink, and I enjoyed the performance a lot for what it was, but it definitely reminded me of the Pop Disaster tour criticism.

Yeah, I’ve seen a lot of bands live and I would put Blink at or near the bottom of the list if I had to rank them and last night wasn’t any better. It was actually worse in a way because they sounded better live with Skiba in my opinion. I still enjoyed watching though and it’s good to see them all back together and having fun. I do prefer having the more contrasting singing voices back though as Hoppus and Skiba sounded too similar.

As for Pop Disaster, I was thinking about that last night since we’ll get a bit of a repeat of that at When We Were Young, glad I’ll be there to see it this time!

Yeah, I grew up going to shows, even really shitty ones, and Blink has never stood out as a great performance but definitely a great time. If that makes any sense. Totally agree with you re: liking having the voices back but feeling like they sounded better with Matt Skiba.

I loved their set, though, and it’s got me hyped for their tour! I’m also sure nerves played a part last night and can see them getting better going forward (before inevitable tour exhaustion sets in).

I mean lets be real. 1991 Green Day was already miles better of what Blink would ever achieve. Part of the reason I dont compare Blink and Green Day, at least when it comes to live stuff. Only thing really similar is they are both 3 piece bands and even then thats debatable with Green Day live

Oh, I don’t disagree and have intentionally never compared them beyond what you said and how they’ve each made their own individual impact on the industry. Their stories and history aren’t similar at all.

They really can’t be compared. They’re both great bands but for different reasons. Plenty of Blink fans dislike Green Day and vice versa.

Sorry if we were Debbie Downers on your post hyping up their return @HCATZ123 - I’m glad Blink fans enjoyed the show

Part of the reason why in hindsight Pop Diaster didnt make a ton of sense. You think they would be super similar but in reality they are two different animals haha

Yeah I wasnt expecting this xD

I mean look compared to other bands yeah Blink is…well pretty bad live, but comparatively against pervious Blink performances, specifically with Tom, this was a good improvement

Lol well I don’t watch a lot of live Blink so aside from seeing them in person with Skiba, that was the only full show I’ve seen with Tom. I was not prepared for the Tom live voice and was really confused that fans were gushing about how great he sounded. But like I said, as long as fans are enjoying it then that’s all that matters

I promise that despite contributing to the Debbie Downerness, I am genuinely a fan and very excited for their comeback lol. I still watch old live GD shows from time to time but haven’t seen Blink since 2017, so it was just a bit jarring (especially with Tom being back) and immediately reminded me of 2002. But I’m sorry for being negative in your post and promise I’ll be a hyped fan going forward!
